Progress! You want to see growth out of a young team, and I feel like we saw some from UVM tonight.

Only two goals tonight, both coming late in the first, on the same UVM power play.

Quinnipiac opened the scoring shorthanded on an absolute danglefest by Taylor House. It wasn’t a total defensive breakdown, just an outstanding individual effort, as she sliced and diced through Theresa Schafzahl, Maude Poulin-Labelle, and Sammy Kolowrat and roofed one on Melissa Black. IMG_1360.JPG

But UVM tied it not long after, with Poulin-Labelle setting up Ève-Audrey Picard with a sweet pass, and she somehow snuck it past Abbie Ives. The Cats knew it was in before the refs did, and it went to a review, but it was a UVM goal nonetheless.

Some thoughts:

  • You can already see the young blueline taking some strides. They didn’t give up a lot of grade-A chances and were better with shot suppression. Still a way to go, but the potential is there.
  • Coach Plumer shook up the lines a bit today, with all three of Schafzahl, Gorecki, and Picard separated. I think the rationale was to try and get some of the other lines going.
  • UVM started a bit meh, but I thought they get better as the game went on.
  • PK, after being very shaky against UConn, was absolutely clutch tonight, killing a late-in-regulation Abby Cleary penalty that stretched into OT.
  • It’ll be interesting to see who starts in goal tomorrow. Black was solid again today, but with such a quick turnaround (2pm puck drop), the coaches may opt to give her a rest.
